There is something special about when a family member officiates a wedding. In such a big moment, there is someone there who has seen the couple through ups and downs and walked along in life with them. For Sarah & Nick's day, it was extra special, as both of their father's officiated the wedding together! About 30 years ago, Sarah's parents and Nick's parents became friends while working at a church on Emory's campus in Atlanta. Years passed, moves happened, and babies were born, but the couples stayed friends from afar and sent Christmas cards back and forth each year. I loved hearing how Nick began to take note when he'd see beautiful Sarah in the photos each year. After connecting over their mutual love of their pups, the two met, and like their parents' relationships before them - "the rest was history."
On their special day, Sarah & Nick wed at the church that her father pastors and where Nick has served as the youth pastor for the past several years! What a special place for them to exchange their vows alongside their family, friends and church community, and to receive communion for the first time as husband and wife from their fathers. With thunderstorms off and on all day and crazy Augusta summer heat, the couple didn't let their perfect day be dampened one bit! All we'll remember is special moments all day, including Sarah's first look with her dad and then later with Nick in the sanctuary where they have spent so many Sundays.
After a massive downpour, the clouds parted for a moment to make the dash to Sacred Heart Cultural Center in downtown Augusta where Sarah & Nick's two fur-babies were awaiting their big photo debut! It was so fun to snap a few photos of the new Tippens family before everyone danced the night away to an amazing night of some of Nick's favorite tunes (and he has a pretty awesome taste in dance party music!) led by the talented M&S Mobile Productions. I'm not going to lie, Nick's dance moves and knowledge of every word of every song was pretty impressive! They finished the evening with an indoor "tunnel" to a rainy getaway car to head to their honeymoon road-tripping along the California coast! Some may be bummed that sparklers weren't an option in the rain, but I see their tunnel as an ode to Nick's love of Duke basketball! ;)
Sarah & Nick, thank you so much for sharing your special day with me. There is no doubt that your wedding will be one I forever cherish in seeing how your fathers so lovingly officiated your ceremony. Having the chance to capture memories that will last a lifetime for you two means the world. Your fun-lovings spirits pair perfectly together, and I can't wait to see how your family of 4 continues to impact so many as you make your next step and adventure to Atlanta. I know there are so many amazing meals and dog park visits to Piedmont Park in your future! Congratulations!
