Food Photographer | A Day of Prosciutto

This past weekend I had almost an entire weekend free from sessions – partially due to intentional scheduling, and partially due to the endless rain we’ve seen. Fortunately, we were able to reschedule the rained out session for this weekend, so I took it upon myself to spend the day creating new surfaces for food photography, cooking and shooting food. Spending time in the kitchen with a camera in hand is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend an afternoon for me! The colors, the smells, the textures, the flavors: all of it just sends a sense of joy through me as I get to stir & chop and then style & shoot!

This Sunday’s focus was prosciutto, starting with one of Chip’s very favorite dishes I make: Prosciutto Wrapped Chicken Stuffed with Brie with a Rosemary Fig Sauce. The recipe (coming soon!) is passed along from my dear foodie friend, Monique, and it’s all the perfect mixes of sweet & savory. I could literally eat that sauce straight with a spoon.

After we dined on part 1 of our lunch, we continued with the prosciutto trend and I put together roasted acorn squash, maple glazed prosciutto, pomegranate arils, kale, & feta. Oh my goodness, so delicious. When plating & styling the dish, I loved seeing the way the colors and textures played off of two different surfaces. Whenever I teach people about food styling & photography, I always remind them that there is no one, single way to style. Finding a preference and challenging yourself to step outside of your “box” can be such fun! Here, I love the texture of the metal pan (literally, this is an old cookie sheet my mom gave me!) and how those orange colors in the pan complement the acorn squash. Plus, the pomegranate pops so nicely against the metal.

And likewise, I love the way the plate & salad just pops off the slate-like background in the other image. I always am drawn in by oranges & blue/grey tones contrasting together! More than anything, this fall dish was beyond amazing, and even my non-squash loving husband approved! A win! We finished up by eating this with our hands (because, we really were ready to dig in!) and then sitting on the couch while the rain came down in a prosciutto coma.

Yes!! Brie anything, fig anything! I will take it all. My husband jokes with me that if I hear or read the word fig, I’m automatically sold. Hope you enjoy the dishes! I’ll share the chicken recipe once my friend posts it!

  2. Oh my! This looks beyond delicious!!!
